Three activists from the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) were killed in an armed attack in Panchhari, Khagrachhari, amid ongoing tensions over establishing supremacy.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning (October 30) at Shanti Ranjan Para in Latiban Union.
The deceased have been identified as Sejan Chakma, Shaman Tripura, and Jayen Chakma.
UPDF organiser for Khagrachhari Aungya Marma confirmed that the victims were carrying out in organisational activities in the area.
Mohammad Jasim,Officer-in-Charge of Panchari Police Station, said that police are aware of the incident but have been unable to recover the bodies due to the inaccessibility of the location.
Aungya Marma further described the attack as a terrorist act perpetrated by state-sponsored armed goons targeting UPDF activists, resulting in the deaths of the three activists on the spot.
In response to the killings, the UPDF has announced a dawn-to-dusk road blockade in Khagrachhari on Thursday, (October 31), to protest the murders and demand the arrest of those responsible.
Niran Chakma, head of the UPDF's publicity and publication department, shared the blockade details in a media statement on Wednesday afternoon.
