BFIU seeks bank account details of 28 journalists

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) of Bangladesh Bank has sought detailed information regarding the bank accounts of 28 senior journalists in the country.

In a letter issued on Tuesday, the intelligence agency of the country’s financial sector instructed various banks and financial institutions to provide the information following correspondence from the Ministry of Information.

The letter inquired whether the 28 journalists have any bank lockers, savings certificates, credit cards, or other financial instruments, as well as whether any monetary transactions have taken place.

Among these journalists are: Naim Nizam, editor of Bangladesh Pratidin; Farida Yasmin, former president of the National Press Club and Member of Parliament; Zayedul Hasan Pinto, Head of News at DBC News; Subhash Singh Roy, Chief Editor of Abnews24.com; Haider Ali, Executive Editor of Kaler Kantho; JM Mamun of ATN Bangla; Syed Borhan Kabir, editor of Bangla Insider; Shaban Mahmood, a journalist from Bangladesh Pratidin and former Press Minister at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi; Mirza Mehedi Tamal, City Editor of Bangladesh Pratidin; Zulkarnein Rano, Chief Reporter of Bangladesh Pratidin; Alamgir Hossain, former editor of Samakal; Madhusudon Mandal of BSS; Masud Ayub Karzon of DBC News TV; Moinul Islam, Executive Editor of Amarder Somoy; journalist Farazi Azmal Hossain; Ashok Chowdhury of Boishakhi TV; Rahul Raha, Executive Editor of ED; Rezaul Karim Lotus, editor of Daily Sun; Ashikur Rahman Shrabon, Deputy Chief News Editor and Head of Digital at News 24 TV; Abdullah Al Mamun, former special correspondent of Jugantor; Rafiqul Islam Ratan, former editor of Swadesh Protidin; Sheikh Jamal Hossain, editor of Daily Mukhapatra; Aditya Arafat, special correspondent of DBC News; Tawhidul Islam Sourav, special correspondent of ATN News; Sheikh Mamunur Rashid, special correspondent of Jugantor; journalist Shyamol Sarkar; Abul Khayer, City Editor of Daily Ittefaq; and Santosh Sharma, editor and publisher of Daily Kalbela.
