Police have arrested former Agriculture Minister and Member of Parliament for the Moulvibazar-4 constituency, Dr Abdus Shahid, in the capital’s Uttara area.
Md Hafizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of the Uttara Paschim Police Station, confirmed the arrest to Jago News around 1:00 am on Wednesday.
He said Shahid was arrested following a raid on his house.
Shahid was appointed Agriculture Minister following the 12th national parliamentary election.
Born on January 1, 1948, in the village of Siddheswarpur in Kamalganj, Moulvibazar, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Moulvibazar-4 constituency as a candidate of the Bangladesh Awami League in the national elections of 1991, 1996, 2001, 2008, 2014, 2018, and 2024.
From 2009 to 2014, he served as Chief Whip of the National Parliament. Prior to that, he held the position of Opposition Chief Whip from 2001 to 2006 and served as a Whip from 1996 to 2001.
