Ex-DMP Commissioner Faruq barred from traveling abroad

Retired Additional Inspector General of Police and former Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Khandker Golam Faruq has been prevented from traveling abroad. He was stopped at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 2:30 am on Saturday.

According to a source at Shahjalal Airport, Golam Faruq arrived at the airport on Saturday night intending to board Thai Airways flight TG-340 to Bangkok, Thailand, for a personal trip. However, immigration police did not permit him to leave the country.

Upon reaching the outbound immigration counter, an immigration officer questioned him, after which he was denied boarding. He remains in the custody of immigration police, with a decision yet to be made on whether he will be handed over to the police station or allowed to return home.

Golam Faruq joined the Bangladesh Police in 1991 as an Assistant Superintendent under the 12th BCS (Police) cadre. He was appointed as the 35th Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on October 29, 2022, and retired on September 30, 2023, after a career spanning 32 years and 8 months.
