India's Border Security Force, BSF, on Saturday handed over the body of a Bangladeshi citizen, who died inside the neighbouring country's territory, to Bangladesh Police.
Deceased Md Rizaul Karim was the son of Abdus Sattar, a resident of Alinapara village in Sherpur Sadar of Sherpur, Sherpur Sadar Police confirmed.
The body of Rezaul was handed over through the Netrokona District Police through the Bagmara LC of the 200 BSF Battalion opposite to the Bijoypur BOP under the Netrokona Battalion (31 BGB).
Rezaul's family members identified his body.
Commanding Officer of the Netrokona Battalion (31 BGB) Lt Col ASM Quamruzzaman confirmed the BSS of the matter.
A BGB press release said, citing BSF sources, seven Bangladeshi nationals entered approximately 100-150 yards into India from the barbed wire near the border pillar 1138/4-S in the Digalbagh area of Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh, under the jurisdiction of the Munshipara BOP under the Netrokona Battalion (31 BGB) in the evening of 24 October 2024.
At that time, when BSF members patrolling the Damdama camp of 181 BSF Battalion challenged them, six of them were able to escape, but one fell from a culvert there, received head injuries and became unconscious and drowned in the water of the culvert, the release said.
BSF members rescued him immediately and admitted him to the local Primary Health Care Center, where he died on October 24, it said.
The autopsy of the deceased was completed in India.
