Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Nahid Islam stated on Wednesday that there is no need for demonstrations or movements at Bangabhaban or elsewhere seeking step down of President Mohammed Sahabuddin.
“We have all received the message from the people, and a decision on this matter should be taken through discussion,” he said while addressing reporters at the ministry.
Nahid emphasised the importance of calm and awareness, urging everyone to engage in constructive dialogue.
He noted, “The interim government was formed with the support of the people through a mass uprising. In the interests of stability and security, we established the government in accordance with the existing constitution and the president. However, if this setup disrupts the functioning of the interim government or if the people are dissatisfied, we will reassess it.”
He clarified that the question of the president's future is a political decision rather than a legal or constitutional one. “Decisions can be made through political compromise and national consensus. Discussions are ongoing with various stakeholders, and a resolution may emerge from these talks.”
Nahid stressed that the top priority remains the stability, security, and order of the state, urging the public to stay vigilant against potential conspiracies. “We call on everyone to remain united and aware, as beneficiary groups and various domestic and foreign conspiracies are at play,” he added.
In response to a question about students issuing an ultimatum, Nahid said, “We are engaged in discussions. There is no set timeline; we will reach a logical decision that benefits the state and the people.”
He also addressed concerns about rising extremist groups, stating, “Fascist forces are trying to regroup, spreading propaganda on social media and marching with weapons. We must unite against these forces, which thrive in chaos.”
