Barrister Suman placed on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for former Member of Parliament for the Habiganj-4 constituency, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman, in a case filed over an alleged attempt to kill Hridoy Miah, a Juba Dal leader and assistant chef at Bangaliana Bhoj restaurant in Mirpur.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jakir Hossain passed the order on Tuesday after the Sub-Inspector Abdul Halim of Mirpur Model Police Station produced him before the court with a ten-day remand request.

According to the case statement, during the anti-discrimination student movement, Hridoy attended a rally at Mirpur-10 after performing Jummah prayers on July 19. Leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations attacked the rally, throwing crude bombs and opening fire, during which Hridoy was shot.

Hridoy is the Senior Vice President of the Madhabpur 10 no Hatiain Union unit of Jubo Dal in Habiganj. He filed the case at Mirpur Model Police Station on September 23.
