Former Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Minister, Imran Ahmed, has been arrested by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The arrest took place in Banani, Dhaka, on Sunday night, confirmed by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP's Media and Public Relations Department.
The political landscape has been in turmoil since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country following intense student and public protests.
Many of her cabinet members and Awami League leaders have since gone into hiding, with rumors suggesting that some have fled abroad.
Imran Ahmed, a five-time Member of Parliament for Sylhet-4, was appointed as the State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment in 2018. He was later promoted to full minister in 2019 under Sheikh Hasina's government, formed after the general election held on January 7 of that year.
