Bangladesh faced an early disaster as their top-order crumbled against South Africa at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in Dhaka on Monday.
At the end of just 7 overs, the team managed only 21 runs while losing 3 crucial wickets.
Openers Sadman Islam, Mominul Haque, and Nazmul Hossain Shanto all fell cheaply, leaving Bangladesh in a precarious position. Sadman Islam was the first to go, dismissed for a duck in the second over after facing just 4 balls. He was caught by Aiden Markram at second slip off the bowling of Proteas pacer Wiaan Mulder, with Bangladesh reeling at 6 for 1.
The second wicket followed swiftly as Mominul Haque departed in the fourth over, scoring just 4 runs off 6 balls. He was caught behind by Kyle Verreynne off another delivery from Mulder, leaving Bangladesh struggling at 10 for 2.
In the sixth over, Nazmul Hossain Shanto fell after scoring 7 runs from 7 balls. The skipper, Keshav Maharaj, caught him at short mid-off, once again off Mulder's bowling. By this time, Bangladesh had slumped to 21 for 3.
As of this writing, Mahmudul Hasan Joy is on 5, while Mushfiqur Rahim remains unbeaten without scoring.
