The interim government is investigating how the top leaders of the Awami League managed to escape, according to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus' Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam.
"We are actively looking into how they fled and why they were able to do so," said Alam during a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy on Saturday (October 19).
He was accompanied by Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, Mahfuj Alam, and deputy press secretaries Apurba Jahangir and Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar.
Addressing the situation, Shafqul expressed concern over the escape of Awami League’s top leadership. "After the events unfolded, we realized that the top leaders of the Awami League had managed to flee. The question is, how did this happen and who is responsible?"
He added that from August 5 to 8, there was effectively no government in place, and many police officers were on strike, creating a significant gap in the enforcement mechanism. "Our primary goal was to arrest them, and we made every effort to do so. However, some individuals managed to slip through."
The government remains committed to arresting those who are still in Bangladesh and involved in the recent violence. Shafiqul iterated that the authorities are thoroughly investigating how the top leaders managed to escape.
