Israel’s government reported that a drone targeted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in Caesarea on Saturday.
No casualties were reported, as neither Netanyahu nor his wife were home at the time.
This incident came shortly after Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowed that Hamas would continue its resistance against Israel following the death of Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind behind the deadly October 7, 2023, attack.
Al Jazeera reported that drones targeting Netanyahu’s house were launched by Hezbollah.
Meanwhile, in Gaza, at least 21 people, including children, were killed in Israeli airstrikes, according to hospital officials and reports from the Associated Press. Sirens sounded in Israel as tensions escalated, warning of incoming fire from Lebanon. Hezbollah, a militant group backed by Iran, has intensified its attacks, threatening more guided missiles and drones aimed at Israel.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has worsened in recent weeks, with Israel launching ground operations into Lebanon earlier in October. Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in September, further inflaming hostilities. In a parallel conflict, Israel continues its war with Hamas in Gaza, with both sides signaling a determination to continue fighting.
On Friday, Ayatollah Khamenei acknowledged the death of Sinwar, describing it as a "painful loss" but affirming that Hamas would persevere. “Hamas is alive and will stay alive,” Khamenei declared.
The war has taken a heavy toll on Gaza, displacing around 90% of its population of 2.3 million and leaving many without access to basic necessities like food, water, and medical supplies. Israeli airstrikes continued Saturday, with reports of hits on hospitals and residential buildings in Gaza, causing further casualties.
Sinwar, who orchestrated the 2023 Hamas attack that killed 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped over 250 people, was a key target for Israel. His death is seen as a significant moment in the ongoing conflict, though Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized that “our war is not yet ended.” Despite the escalating violence, there is hope among some that Sinwar’s killing could open the door for negotiations to secure the release of hostages still held in Gaza.
