A Dhaka court on Thursday imposed a travel ban on former army chief Aziz Ahmed and his wife, Dilshad Nahar Kakoli, over graft allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Ash Shams Zaglul Hossain passed the order after Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Zakaria, filed a plea seeking the travel ban.
The ACC's plea stated that allegations against Aziz Ahmed include abuse of power, various irregularities, and corruption, through which he and his family members have acquired undisclosed wealth. Additionally, it is alleged that he has transferred money abroad through various banks and hundis to conduct business and purchase properties in Malaysia, Singapore, and Dubai. This matter is currently under investigation.
Efforts are ongoing to collect records and information related to these allegations. It has been learned from reliable sources that the accused are attempting to leave the country. To ensure a fair investigation, it is necessary to prevent their departure.
