Students have marched to the High Court on Wednesday and laid a siege to the top court demanding the resignation of what they called "pro-Awami League fascist judges".
The students, from Dhaka University and some private universities, entered the High Court premises around 11:20am, accompanied by a group of lawyers who shared their demands.
Simultaneously, another group of students gathered at the Raju Memorial Sculpture on Dhaka University campus, preparing to join the march towards the High Court. The protesters were led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, with coordinator Sarjis Alam calling for the siege in a Facebook post the day before.
"We will lay siege to the High Court to demand the resignation of Awami League's fascist judges," Sarjis wrote, while another coordinator, Hasnat Abdullah, iterated the call for action in a post on his own Facebook profile later that evening.
Students of Dhaka University began assembling at Raju Memorial around 10:30am, with participants from Dhaka University and surrounding institutions. As they prepared to march, they chanted slogans like "Surround the High Court," "We have shed blood and will shed more," and "Tear down the hideouts of fascism." They also called for justice, demanding the execution of those they labeled as murderers.
The High Court siege programme was announced the previous day by the student movement coordinators, sparking heightened security around the court premises as the protest progressed.
