The ready-made garment (RMG) workers from eight factories in the Kochukhet area, adjacent to Dhaka Cantonment, are protesting by blocking the road for due salaries.
Nearly 10,000 workers blocked the Cantonment-Mirpur 14 road on Monday morning, causing significant traffic jams from Mirpur 14 to Kochukhet.
According to the workers, they have not received payment for three months due to circumstances that have changed since August 5. They stated that the protest will continue until their wages are paid.
Al-Amin (26), one of the protesting workers, told Jago News, "We have not received our salaries for the last three months. We are unable to support our families. We will not leave the streets until we receive our dues."
Meanwhile, after the government holiday for Durga Puja, this protest on the first working day has caused inconvenience for the general public. The roadblock has led to severe traffic congestion from Mirpur 14 to Kochukhet.
Iftikhar Mahmood Naim, a commuter on this route, said, "Due to the protest by the garment workers, traffic has come to a standstill on this road, increasing everyone's difficulties."
