Floods in 3 districts affect 2.38 lakh people, 10 dead

Floods in three northeastern districts of Bangladesh have affected 238,391 people and claimed 10 lives.

The information was shared by KM Ali Reza, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, during a press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday (October 9).

The flood-affected districts are Sherpur, Mymensingh, and Netrakona, with 13 upazilas and 73 unions or municipalities submerged. A total of 63,171 families have been impacted by the flooding, according to Reza.

Of the 10 reported deaths, eight occurred in Sherpur and two in Mymensingh. The victims include eight men and two women.

To aid those affected, 140 shelters have been set up, providing refuge to 1,337 people and 561 livestock. Additionally, 20 medical teams are working in the three districts to provide healthcare.

Reza outlined the ongoing relief efforts, noting that the government has distributed Tk 72 lakh, 4,400 tons of relief rice, and 7,000 packets of dry food. Tk 15 lakh has also been allocated for baby food, with another Tk 15 lakh set aside for livestock feed.

Despite the devastation, Reza added that the flood situation is gradually improving.
