Saber Chowdhury gets bail, no bar to release

Former minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury has been granted bail in the case filed by Paltan Police Station regarding the shooting death of BNP activist Maqbul.

Additionally, he was granted bail in two murder cases and two attempted murder cases filed by Khilgaon Police Station, along with another attempted murder case from Paltan Police Station.

His lawyer, Morshed Alam Shaheen, confirmed that there is no obstacle to his release, as there are no other pending cases against him.

On Tuesday (October 8), Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman granted bail in the Paltan Police Station case, while Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan granted bail in the Khilgaon Police Station case, following hearings in both courts.

During the five-day remand, police produced Chowdhury before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka. Sub-Inspector Nazmul Hasan, the investigating officer from Paltan Model Police Station, submitted a report to the court.

In the report, the investigating officer mentioned that Chowdhury was unable to answer any questions during interrogation. It was revealed that he is physically unwell and suffers from heart disease, with three rings installed in his heart. Due to his current health condition, further questioning in police custody would not yield useful information. As a result, he was sent back to court without being further interrogated.

Earlier, on Sunday (October 6), Chowdhury was arrested from the Gulshan area of the capital. On Monday (October 7), Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque had initially rejected his bail request and granted a five-day remand, while also approving the application to show him arrested in four separate murder cases filed by Khilgaon Police Station.
