Saber Hossain Chowdhury on 5-day remand

A court in Dhaka has placed Saber Hossain Chowdhury, former minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, on a five-day remand in a case over the murder a BNP activist.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque passed the order on Monday (October 7) after the police had produced him before the court, seeking a 10-day remand.

The Detective Branch, DB, of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested him in the capital’s Gulshan area on Sunday (October 6).

According to the case statement, the Awami League men carried out vandalism at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, beat up the party leaders and activists there and opened fire on them on December 7, 2022. In the incident, a BNP activist named Makbul died.

On September 30, 2024, the case was filed with the Paltan police station in this connection.

In the remand plea, investigation officer sub-inspector Nazmul Hasan said Saber Hossain Chowdhury was directly involved in the murder.

With Awami League's nomination, Saber Hossain Chowdhury became member of parliament from Dhaka-9 constituency for several times.
