Security heightened around BSEC office amid investors’ protests

Security has been significantly enhanced around the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) office following an ultimatum from investors demanding the resignation of Chairman Khandaker Rashid Maqsood.

Police, Coast Guard, and Army personnel were deployed in front of the BSEC office after a human chain demonstration on Thursday (October 3) where investors protested against the ongoing decline in the stock market and demanded the chairman's resignation by Saturday.

As of Sunday morning (October 6), strict security measures were evident, with members of the security forces positioned outside the BSEC office, though no investors were present.

By noon, a substantial police presence was noted under the BSEC building, while Coast Guard and Army personnel were observed in the basement.

During last Thursday’s protest, angry investors locked the main gate of the BSEC in response to the continuous price drop in the stock market. They eventually dispersed around 6:30pm, granting the chairman until Saturday to step down.
