More than 100 villages in two upazilas of Sherpur have been flooded due to the incessant rain and water from upstream India, leaving thousands of people marooned.
The Moharashi river in Jhinaigati, and Bhogai, and Chellakhali rivers in Nalitabari are flowing above the danger mark and embankments in several places broke on Thursday midnight.
Md Nakibuzzaman Khan, executive engineer of Water Development Board, Sherpur said three rivers in the district are flowing above the danger level due the downpours.
Newer areas will be submerged if it continues to rain, he warned, adding that the damaged embankments will be repaired.
