RMG workers block Dhaka-Mymensingh highway again

The ready-made garment workers have once again blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur, demanding jobs and various other issues.

They began their protest by blocking the road at 8:00 am on Wednesday, resulting in traffic being halted on both sides of the highway, causing severe difficulties for travelers.

Previously, the agitated workers went to several factories in the Vogra Choudhury Bari area and hurled bricks and stones. They urged the workers of those factories to join the protest. As a result, several factories in the vicinity of Vogra Choudhury Bari declared a holiday for Wednesday.

These factories include Belmond, Techno Fiber Limited, Interling, Euromic Tax Limited, Rua Fashion.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the workers had blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for 11 hours, causing immense hardship for travelers. On Wednesday, the workers repeated the blockade at the same location, increasing the difficulties for office-goers and others who needed to be out.

Garment worker Nazmul Hossain said, "I have been unemployed for four months. When I go to various factories for jobs, they are not hiring male workers. Many factories are also laying off female workers. We have been demanding the reinstatement of the dismissed workers and the hiring of male workers."

Gazipur Industrial Police Superintendent Sarwar Alam said, "Several workers from garment factories have protested and created a blockade on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for jobs and various demands. The industrial police have arrived at the scene and are talking to the workers."
