A Chattogram court has declared BNP leader Dr Shahadat Hossain as the mayor of Chattogram City Corporation in a case filed by him seeking cancellation of the polls’ results.
The Election Tribunal and the Court of Joint District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Khairul Amin delivered the verdict on Tuesday afternoon.
The court also asked the authorities concerned to publish a gazette notification in this regard within the next 10 days, said Arashad Hossain Asad, lawyer for Shahadat.
On February 24, 2021, BNP-backed mayoral candidate Dr Shahadat Hossain filed the case with the court, seeking an order to scrap the gazette notification declaring Rezaul Karim Chowdhury as Chattogram mayor.
