The High Court has removed the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from investigating the high-profile murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Runi.
The court has also directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to form a high-powered task force to oversee the investigation, with a report to be submitted within the next six months.
The order was issued on Monday (September 30) by a High Court bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbub ul Islam.
Sagar Sarwar, the news editor of Maasranga Television, and his wife, Mehrun Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were brutally murdered on the night of February 11, 2012, in their rented apartment in West Rajabazar, Dhaka.
Their mutilated bodies were discovered early the following morning.
Following the murder, Runi's brother, Nowsher Ali Roman, filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on February 12, 2012.
