Malaysia's Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, is expected to visit Bangladesh on October 4, according to diplomatic sources. Prior to his arrival in Bangladesh, he is scheduled to visit Pakistan.
Sources from the Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia has confirmed that during his visit, Anwar will meet with Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser to the interim government, as well as the President of Bangladesh.
This visit is anticipated to strengthen the development strategies championed by Yunus and enhance mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations. Such cooperation is expected to advance the interests of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia and contribute to the establishment of a welfare-oriented state.
Following recent political changes in Bangladesh, Anwar expressed his desire for a swift visit to the country. On August 14, he personally congratulated Yunus and conveyed his intention to visit Bangladesh during a phone call.
During their conversation, Yunus reiterated his commitment to safeguarding the rights of all Bangladeshis, including minorities. He also extended an invitation for Anwar to visit Bangladesh to further solidify the fraternal relations between the two countries. In response, Anwar expressed his eagerness for an early visit.
Reflecting on his long-standing relationship with Yunus, Anwar conveyed his satisfaction and affirmed that Malaysia is prepared to provide full support to the interim government. He also stated that Malaysia is ready to partner with Bangladesh in its efforts to become a prosperous and truly democratic state. In turn, Yunus thanked Anwar for the call and expressed hope that Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia would gain greater employment opportunities.
