A High Court bench on Wednesday ordered the Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate to conduct a judicial inquiry into the humiliation of Narayanganj Piyar Sattar Latif High School headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta.
The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das passed the order asking the Dhaka CMM to submit the report on November 3 and set November 6 for passing order on the issue.
The court did not accept the police report on the incident branding it incomplete. The court also observed that the report did not identify the masterminds of the incidents.
The court also rebuked a Narayanganj magistrate for accepting the incomplete report.
A Narayanganj court recently cleared Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Salim Osman of the charge of humiliating Shyamal Kanti Bhakta as investigation had not found his involvement in the incident.
The attorney general’s office on Thursday received the Narayanganj police superintendent’s report on the incident.
The High Court on June 9 ordered the superintendent of police and officer-in-charge of Bandar police station in Narayanganj to submit probe reports in detail into the general diary police had filed over the incident of teacher humiliation.
On May 18, the High Court in a suo moto rule asked the police to explain what actions taken against AKM Salim Osman and others who publicly humiliated the schoolteacher.
On May 13, locals beat Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar area, for allegedly hurting religious sentiment.
At one stage, local MP Salim Osman allegedly forced him to do sit-ups holding his earlobes.
