Ex-IGP Mamun placed on 4-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a four-day remand for former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and a five-day remand for Hasibur Rahman, the former councillor for Dhaka South City Corporation's Ward 26, in a case filed over the shooting and killing of trader Abdul Wadud in the capital’s New Market area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque passed the order after the police produced them before the court, requesting a ten-day remand for each.

Wadud was shot dead by police in the Nilkhet area under New Market Police Station on July 19.

His brother-in-law filed a murder case against 130 individuals, including Mamun and Rahman.

Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Mamun from Uttara, while Rahman was arrested at Kellar intersection in Lalbagh on August 22.
