BFUJ President Ruhul Amin passes away

Ruhul Amin Gazi, President of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and chief reporter for Dainik Sangram, passed away on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital. He was 72.

"Ruhul Amin Gazi breathed his last at 9pm. He had been undergoing treatment at the ICU of BRB Hospital since Monday," said Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Md Shahidul Islam.

He left behind his wife, two daughters, a son, relatives, colleagues, a host of well-wishers and admirers to mourn his death.

Ruhul Amin was suffering from various ailments including kidney disease and diabetes.

Family sources said the eminent journalist was imprisoned for long during the fascist Awami regime resulting in his various ailments.

On behalf of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) family, its Managing Director and Chief Editor Mahbub Morshed expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of noted journalist Ruhul Amin Gazi.

He prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Ruhul Amin Gazi was born in an aristocratic Muslim family at Gobindia in Chandpur sadar upazila. His father was Moulvi Kafil Uddin and mother Ayesha Khatun.

He was serving as the president of BFUJ for the fourth term. Earlier, the veteran journalist also served as the secretary general of the BFUJ, president and general secretary of DUJ.

He played a vital role in forming and implementing the journalists' wage-board and contributed a lot to realize the rights of the journalists.

He had been in jail for over 17 months during the fascist Awami League regime.

In separate condolence messages, Jatiya Press Club President Poet Hasan Hafiz and its General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan, BFUJ Secretary General Kader Gani Chowdhury, DUJ President Md Shahidul Islam and its General Secretary Khurshid Alam, Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) President Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo and General Secretary Mohi Uddin also mourned his death.

The journalists' leaders also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
