Fake NIDs of ex-CAS Gen Aziz's brothers cancelled

The Election Commission has canceled four fraudulent National Identity Cards obtained by the two brothers of former Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed—Haris Ahmed and Tofail Ahmed, alias Joseph.

Additionally, they have been barred from accessing any NID-related services in the country.

The Director General of the National Identity Registration Division, Dr Mahbub Alam Talukder, shared this information with the media on Tuesday (September 24).

According to Mahbub Alam, General Aziz Ahmed served as the Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh from June 2018 to June 2021. His brothers, Haris and Joseph, falsified their identities by changing both their own names and their parents' names in the NID records.

Harish Ahmed altered his name to Mohammad Hasan, and Joseph adopted the name Tanvir Ahmed Tanzil. They also changed their registered address.

To investigate how the two brothers managed to obtain NIDs with these false details, the commission formed a three-member inquiry committee.

In 2019, Haris Ahmed even changed his photograph on the NID card, with then-Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed recommending the update.
