The Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Monday arrested Siam Hasan, 26, a charge-sheeted accused in a case lodged over the attack on the convoy of then-US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia S Bernicat in August 2018.
He was arrested in the Tajmahal Road area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, around 11:30 pm.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of the DMP, confirmed the arrest.
He stated that acting on a tip-off, a DB Tejgaon team arrested Siam from a house in the Tajmahal Road area in connection with the attack on the former ambassador's convoy. He is also accused in a case related to killings during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Shusashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan) Secretary Badiul Alam Majumdar filed the case with the Mohammadpur police station on August 10, 2018, for the attack that took place on August 4, 2018.
Md Abdur Rawf, the Inspector and investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet to the court against 19 people on January 18, 2021.
