52 Ashulia factories remain closed amid protests, traffic resumes

The industrial area of Ashulia saw some unrest this morning, but tensions eased by noon as traffic returned to normal on the Abdullahpur-Bypail road. Despite this, 52 factories remain closed.

According to industrial police, workers returned to their jobs in most factories across Ashulia in the morning.

However, several factories witnessed strikes, leading to the closure of plants in areas such as Jamgara, Unique, Narsinghpur, and Jashanpur.

In response, some factory authorities declared holidays after strikes disrupted production.

In a separate incident, hundreds of workers from Generation Next Garments blocked the Abdullahpur-Bypail road in Narsinghpur, protesting for over an hour.

They voiced demands for 15 issues, including unpaid wages and salary increases. The blockade was lifted after law enforcement intervened.

By afternoon, no further protests were reported, and production resumed in most factories with nearly full worker attendance. Workers from the 52 factories that remain closed were notably absent from both the roads and factory gates.

Security measures were visibly tightened throughout the industrial zone, with RAB, police, and army personnel on duty. Armored vehicles were also on standby to prevent any further disturbances.

Ashulia Industrial Police-1 Superintendent of Police Sarwar Alam confirmed that 43 factories have been closed indefinitely, while an additional nine are observing general holidays.

He said that while there was some disruption earlier in the day, the situation has normalised since noon.
