The Chief Adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, will hold a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 24.
Source said Washington finalised the Yunus-Biden meeting on Thursday afternoon (September 19). In view of this, Yunus is leaving for New York on September 23 instead of September 24.
In the last three decades, there has not been a meeting like this with any head of state or government of Bangladesh.
After taking office as Chief Adviser on August 8, this will be Yunus's first foreign trip to attend the UNGA in New York.
During his stay in New York, the Chief Adviser is expected to hold bilateral meetings with the Prime Ministers of the Netherlands, Pakistan, and Nepal, Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said on Friday.
Additionally, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the President of the European Union, the UN Secretary-General, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the President of the World Bank, and the USAID Administrator will also meet with Yunus for bilateral talks, Touhid added.
