The government has decided to give permission for exporting 3,000 tonnes of hilsa to India on the occasion of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community.
The Ministry of Commerce confirmed the matter in a notice on Saturday.
The decision came after several days of discussions about whether the interim government would export hilsa to India.
Usually, the Ministry of Commerce grants permission for hilsa exports, but a prior recommendation from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock is required.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock earlier said that hilsa will not be exported to India this time.
