Interim government in no way be allowed to fail: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said the interim government would not be allowed to fail in any way.

"The interim government is the outcome of the student-people revolution. We should let them work and extend all-out cooperation. If they fail, it will be the failure of all of us. So, the government would not be allowed to fail in any way," he said.

Fakhrul said this while addressing a public rally organised by BNP Ranisankail upazila unit of Thakurgaon.

He said the mess of Hasina's government must be cleaned up and a participatory election be organised.

The BNP secretary general said some students have forced some teachers to resign. "It is not the work of the students. Basically, we have become independent . . . this independence must be protected," he said.

He said Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, is approaching. "Puja mandaps should be guarded during this festival. Our activists have to protect the puja mandaps so that the Sanatan people could celebrate their festival freely," he added.

Fakhrul said Sheikh Hasina fled the country on August 5 in the wake of students-mass upsurge. But many students and masses were killed before she fled the country, he said, adding many were missing and many students become crippled.

Now, he said, Sheikh Hasina is hatching conspiracy staying in India. "I would like to urge the Indian government to ensure that she (Sheikh Hasina) cannot hatch any conspiracy from India," he added.

He said the Awami League government has made the country toothless and they have destroyed the country with corruption. All, including UP members, chairmen, MPs, ministers and even the prime minister, have looted money through the mega projects, he added.

The BNP secretary general said, "Now we have become independent and the interim government has taken the responsibility of the government for a short time. They will create an election environment and maintain law and order".

Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the Awami League government had taken away the basic rights of the countrymen. "Many activists of Hefajat-e-Islam were shot dead at Shapla Square at midnight. The people of this country will never forgive the murderer Sheikh Hasina's government. They will be tried on the soil of the country," he added.

BNP central executive member Z Murtaza Chowdhury, BNP Thakurgaon district unit general secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, vice presidents Obaidullah Masud, Sultanul Ferdows Nammra Chowdhury and Paygam Ali, organizing secretary Bakul Majumder and BNP municipality unit president Shahjahan Ali, among others, addressed the meeting with BNP Ranisankail upazila unit president Ataur Rahman in the chair.

Later, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir joined another public rally organised by BNP Pirganj upazila unit at Dak Banglo Stadium ground with BNP upazila unit president and former lawmaker Jahedur Rahman in the chair.

Earlier, the BNP secretary general distributed financial assistance to the families of those who were martyred and injured during the student-people uprising at the Thakurgaon Press Club.
