Hasina, 3 former CECs accused in treason case in Ctg

A treason case has been filed in Chittagong against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three former Chief Election Commissioners (CECs), along with other commissioners and secretaries, for organising illegal and fraudulent elections.

The three former CECs are Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed, KM Nurul Huda and Kazi Habibul Awal.

The members of parliament, including Obaidul Quader, who have served three terms, have also been accused in the case.

Ekramul Karim, former general secretary of the Chittagong City unit of BNP, filed the case with the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate-6, Kazi Shariful Haque, on Wednesday. The court accepted the case and ordered the police to investigate.

The plaintiff's lawyer, Kofil Uddin, stated, "In the last three elections, many popular leaders, including those from the opposition, did not participate. Ordinary people were unable to exercise their right to vote. Due to the failure of those in the Election Commission, the administration and law enforcement also acted unilaterally in the electoral process. In the three elections held at great expense, administration officials, including the commissioners, violated the constitution. A case of treason and fraud has been filed for these reasons."

He also mentioned, "Additionally, the members of parliament elected in these elections have been accused in this case because they have illegally enjoyed privileges."
