Govt unaware of Hasina’s status in India: Foreign affairs adviser

The interim government is unaware of the current status of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in India, said Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.

He made this statement while responding to journalists' questions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (September 17) afternoon.

Touhid clarified that Dhaka has not made any official inquiries to Delhi regarding Sheikh Hasina’s stay in India.

When asked whether Bangladesh would seek official information about the former Prime Minister's status, he replied, “We do not know anything officially. I haven’t made any formal request.”

Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5 amid the student-led anti-discrimination protests.

Her passport is expected to expire 45 days after leaving the country. Addressing this, Touhid said, "Not everything is governed strictly by law. The government of India has given her shelter, and she is currently staying there. We need to look at it from that perspective."
