The detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested former minister for cultural affairs Asaduzzaman Noor and former state minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali from the capital on Sunday night.
Noor was arrested from Nawratan colony on Bailey Road. He is accused in a case filed with Mirpur Police Station, said DMP’s additional commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallik.
He also said, Ali was arrested from Segunbagicha area. He was shown arrested in a murder case. He will be produced before a court with a remand prayer.
Noor, also a prominent actor, was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Awami League from the Nilphamari-2 constituency five times. He served as the Minister for Cultural Affairs in Sheikh Hasina’s third cabinet.
Mahbub Ali was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Awami League from Habiganj-2 constituency in 2014 and 2018. He contested the last general election from the then-ruling party but lost by a significant margin to Syed Sayedul Haque Suman, an independent candidate.
