The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced a 100-day action plan, which includes initiatives to reform the pay structure for journalists.
The announcement was made by Nahid Islam, Adviser to the Ministry, during a briefing at the ministry on Thursday (September 12).
Key initiatives in the plan include the formation of an Independent Media Commission, the enactment of the Media Workers (Conditions of Employment) Act, and the Broadcasting Act. Additionally, reforms are planned for existing laws, rules, and policies to enhance media freedom.
The action plan also outlines rational reforms to the salary structure for journalists and the modernisation of the licensing policy for online news portals. Certain sections of the Right to Information Act 2009 will also be updated to make it more relevant and effective.
