Mashrafe, his father sued over attack on students in Narail

A case has been filed against former cricketer and lawmaker Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, his father Golam Mortaza Swapan, and 88 others in connection with the attack on students and other people during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Narail. 

The case was filed by Sheikh Mostofa Al-Muzahidul Rahman Polash at the Narail Sadar police station on Tuesday night.

According to the case statement, the accused, armed with machetes, knives, Chinese axes, and iron rods, and led by Mashrafe and his father, attacked students and other people near Rasel Bridge on August 4 while they were proceeding towards the town to demand the resignation of Sheikh Hasina’s government. The accused also opened fire on them and hurled brick chips. Many protesters were seriously injured and are still receiving treatment. 

Confirming the matter to Jago News, Mohammad Saiful Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Narail Sadar Police Station, said that action would be taken after an investigation.

Earlier, on August 22, a murder case was filed against cricketer and former lawmaker Shakib Al Hasan at Adabor police station in Dhaka, in connection with the death of a garment worker during the mass protest on August 5.
