After Swarna, BSF kills another Bangladeshi teen on Thakurgaon border

A Bangladeshi teenager was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Kantibhita border area of Dhantala Union in Baliadangi of Thakurgaon. 

Two others, including the victim's father, were injured during the incident.

The victim, 15-year-old Jayanta Kumar Singh, was fatally shot by the BSF while allegedly attempting to cross into India near Main Pillar 393 of the Dhantala BGB border on Sunday (September 8). 

Jayanta was a resident of Fakir Bhita village in Baliadangi.

Jayanta's father, Mahadeb Kumar Singh, and another individual, Bangthu Mohammad, were also injured. They reportedly fled back into Bangladesh and are receiving treatment at a clinic. 

The police and border guard officials are investigating the reasons behind their presence at the border.

Baliadangi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Feroz Kabir confirmed the incident, saying that the body of the deceased remains in BSF custody.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Tanzir Ahmad, commanding officer of Thakurgaon 50 BGB Battalion, said, "We are aware of the incident and are investigating further."

This incident follows a similar shooting on September 1, when 16-year-old Swarna Das, an class VIII student, was shot and killed by BSF gunfire at the Kulaura border in Moulvibazar. After about 45 hours, BSF handed over her body through the Chatlapur checkpoint on Tuesday, September 3.

Swarna was the daughter of Parendra Das from Kalanigarh village in the Paschim Juri Union of Juri Upazila, Moulvibazar. Parendra Das mentioned that his elder son lives in Tripura, India. Swarna and her mother attempted to cross the Lalarchak border into India on Sunday night with the help of two local brokers to visit him. As they neared the barbed wire fence, BSF opened fire, killing Swarna on the spot. Several others, including Swarna’s maternal uncle, were injured.

Her body remained at the scene until 4 p.m. the following day. Later, a team from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) visited the family and informed them that BSF had taken her body.
