A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed former Additional Superintendent of Police Abdullahil Kafi on an eight-day remand in an abduction case.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aktaruzzaman passed the order after the police produced him before the court, seeking a 10-day remand.
According to the statement of the case filed with the Hazaribagh police station, 10 people, including Kafi, former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, police official Maruf Hossain Sarder, the police station's officer-in-charge Iqram Ali Mia and unidentified others, abducted one engineer Main Uddin from Dhanmondi on February 17, 2019, and took a huge ransom from his family.
Kafi committed the crime when he was additional deputy commissioner at Dhanmondi Zone of Police, the statement said.
