Workers block Dhaka-Tangail, Dhaka-Mymensingh highways

A group of workers are protesting by blocking the Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways in Gazipur on Monday, demanding job regularisation, payment of arrears, and the recruitment of male workers.

They are staging demonstrations at Chandana crossroad, Bhogra, Nawjor, Konabari, Board Bazar and Tongi. 

The protesters said male workers are feeling deprived because only female workers are being recruited at various garment factories in Gazipur. We took to the streets in the morning demanding the recruitment of male workers in the factories.  

On the other hand, the workers of Bata Shoe Company are staging a demonstration at Tongi area, demanding job regularisation.  

However, a group of workers of DBL Pharmaceuticals are protesting with various demands at Konabari. 

Ashraful Islam, Officer-in-charge of Gacha police station, said the workers have been blocking the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway since morning with various demands. Discussions are ongoing with them. 

Gazipur Industrial Police Additional Superintendent of Police Imran Ahmed said, efforts are being made to persuade the workers to clear the highway.
