HC orders to keep Somoy TV’s broadcast shut for 7 days

The High Court has ordered the authorities of private television channel Somoy TV to keep its broadcast shut for seven days.

The HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Sashankha Shekhar Sarkar on Monday passed the order with a ruling after holding a hearing on a writ petition filed by the television’s Director Shampa Rahman.

Lawyers Mojibul Haque Bhuiyan and Ahsanul Karim stood on behalf of the writ while Deputy Attonery General Foyez Ahmed represented the state.

Lawyer Ahsanul stated that, in the petition, his client claimed that Somoy TV had been used as a spokesperson for the previous government. He prayed the High Court to issue the necessary order to ensure that the television channel operates impartially.
