Only seven out of the 626 people who sought refuge in various cantonments across the country after August 5 remain there, according to a statement from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Of the original group, 615 individuals have left voluntarily, and four were handed over to law enforcement agencies.
The ISPR reported that among those who sought shelter were 24 politicians, five judges, and 515 police personnel. They took refuge in the Dhaka Cantonment following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government amid a mass uprising.
These individuals, including officials from various public universities, sought protection in the cantonment out of fear for their lives. The military provided shelter to prevent extrajudicial actions, safeguard lives, and uphold the rule of law, the ISPR said.
Currently, three individuals and their four family members remain in the cantonment, and the military has provided all relevant information to the concerned ministry.
The ISPR emphasised that the Bangladesh Army is committed to improving the country's law and order situation and is working impartially and professionally to prevent extrajudicial activities.
The statement called on everyone to remain patient, avoid listening to rumors, and adopt a cooperative attitude.
It also reassured that the Bangladesh Army will continue to stand by the public and uphold the existing laws of the country.
