The interim government's adviser for the Liberation War Affairs and Disaster Management ministries, Faruk E Azam, announced on Saturday that any individuals falsely claiming to be freedom fighters will be punished for deceiving the state.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Chattogram Circuit House about the city's law and order situation, Faruk stated, "By scrutinizing the list of freedom fighters, we can see the reality of what has happened. People have been added to the list as freedom fighters in various ways."
He emphasised, "We will thoroughly examine the issue. Genuine freedom fighters will remain on the list, while the fake ones will be removed. Many of them should be punished for deceiving the state."
Faruk added that he has instructed the ministry to investigate the matter further.
Following the briefing, the adviser visited the burnt Kotwali police station and spoke with the officers. He also urged local residents to cooperate in restoring normal police activities.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Saiful Islam, Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Fakhruzzaman, and other senior officials from various law enforcement agencies in Chattogram were present at the event.
