Professor Dr Ahmedul Kabir, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services, has said it is possible to bring a visible change to the health sector in 90 days.
He came up with the expectation in a joint press conference arranged by the health directorate and the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Movement at Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka on Saturday.
Ahmedul said for the last four years, there had been demands for launching the national health insurance and national health authority, forming an independent commission for the health sector, making all purchases strategic, focusing on services, not equipment.
“But none of these were met. Now we think the suitable opportunity has come to work in the health sector,” he said.
At the press conference, one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Movement, Hasnat Abdullah, said the DGHS informed them that it is possible to make the health sector public oriented within 90 days if all kinds of irregularities are stopped.
