Hasina, Mohibul, 82 others face murder charge in Ctg

A case has been filed against 84 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Education Minister Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, in connection with the murder of student Tanvir Siddiqui in Chattogram.

Tanvir was killed during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 18.

Zahidul Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Chandgaon Police Station, confirmed the filing of the case on Saturday, August 17. The case was filed by Tanvir Siddiqui's uncle, Mohammad Parvez.

OC Zahidul Kabir stated, "34 people have been named, and 50 others remain unidentified in the murder case of student Tanvir Siddiqui."

Among the 34 named accused are former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, former city unit Chhatra League President Nurul Azim Roni, Chandgaon Ward Councilor Esrarul Haque Esrar, Jamalkhan Ward Councilor Shaibal Das Sumar, and others including Esrarul's aide Mohiuddin Farhad, Drill Jalal, Farid, and City College VP Tahsin and Feroze.

The incident occurred on July 18, when three youths were shot dead during a tripartite clash among police, Chhatra League-Juba League activists and student protesters seeking quota reform at Bahaddarhat area of Chattogram city. 

Among the three was Tanvir Ahmed Siddiqui, a 19-year-old student of Ashekane Degree College, who was shot in the head. 

The clash also claimed the lives of Chittagong University student Hriday Chandra Tarua and shopkeeper Saiman. 

Several leaders and activists of Chhatra League and Juba League, led by local councilor Esrarul Haque, were reportedly seen firing gunshots during the incident.
