Govt to cover medical expenses of injured protesters

The government has announced that it will cover all medical expenses for those injured during the July-August mass uprising that led to the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.

In a press release issued on Saturday, Jahangir Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Health, stated that all medical costs for those injured in the anti-discrimination student movement will be covered by the government.

The release also requested private hospitals not to accept medical bills from injured protesters. The government will bear the costs for those undergoing treatment in private hospitals if necessary.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has formed a committee to investigate the casualties from the student movement. The committee is set to meet Sunday to decide on the course of action.

The violence during the protests saw law enforcement, including the police, resorting to indiscriminate firing, using both rubber bullets and live ammunition, to quell the students' demands for quota reforms in government jobs.
