Why not compensation for families of children killed in firing: HC

The High Court has issued a ruling questioning why the families of women and children who were shot dead in their homes and balconies during the quota reform movement up to August 5 should not be compensated.

The court also asked why an international commission of inquiry should not be formed to investigate the organised killings during this period.

The next hearing and order in this matter have been scheduled for September 5.

The ruling was issued on Thursday (August 15) following a preliminary hearing of the writ petition filed by lawyer Taimur Alam Khandkar. The bench, consisting of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Mohammad Bazlur Rahman, passed the order.

The relevant ministries and government departments have been asked to respond to the ruling.
