BNP requests UN probe into mass killings during student movement

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Tuesday submitted a formal letter to the United Nations, calling for an international investigation into the mass killings allegedly committed by the ousted Sheikh Hasina government during the recent student-led uprising.

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury delivered the letter to UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Gwyn Lewis, at her office in Gulshan.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Amir Khasru stated that the BNP urged the UN to conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the alleged massacres and killings carried out against Bangladeshi citizens under the "illegal" Awami League government. The party emphasized the need for an inquiry that meets international standards of transparency and fairness.

He also mentioned that the UN Resident Coordinator's office would forward the letter to the UN headquarters for further consideration.
