Four newly appointed justices of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court took the oath of office on Tuesday.
They are Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, Justice Syed Mohammad Ziaul Karim, Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice SM Emdadul Haque.
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed administered the oath at the Supreme Court judges’ lounge.
The justices of both Appellate and High Court divisions of the Supreme Court, President of Supreme Court Bar Association and others were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Monday made the appointments in line with Article 95 (1) of the Constitution, by elevating them from the High Court Division to the Appellate Division.
With the new appointments, the total number of justices in the Appellate Division is now eight.
Earlier on Sunday, Syed Refaat Ahmed was sworn in as the 25th Chief Justice of Bangladesh. President administered the oath of office at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban.
