The interim government’s home affairs adviser, Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, issued a stern warning on Monday against any attempts at a counter-revolution.
"Don't do anything that endangers your lives. The people of this country are not yet ready to accept you," Sakhawat said while speaking to journalists at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka Cantonment.
When asked about efforts to reorganise the Awami League in various areas, he responded, "Whatever they do, whether gathering people or anything else, they should not do anything that puts their lives at risk. The people of this country are not ready to accept you. I suggest you focus on reorganising your party. It has made significant contributions to Bangladesh, which we cannot deny. Rebuild the party, act like a political party, and participate in elections when the time comes."
Addressing ousted Awami League activists, Sakhawat said, "People have not forgotten things so quickly. Give them some time, and they might. Many of your leaders are still on the run. We haven’t been able to save everyone who got caught, although many have managed to save some of your leaders. We know where everyone is now."
He cautioned against any further attempts to destabilise the situation, saying, "There is no point in fighting. We don't want more deaths. Already 400 to 500 people have died on both sides. This is the current state of the police and the Ansar."
